Just north of Colorado Springs and the Air Force Academy, you will find Monument, so named for the rock structure that makes its home there, Monument Rock. This relatively flat landscape runs up against the Rocky Mountains but not before the abrupt site of the monolith, where you and the whole family can hike and explore.

This is not a high-traffic area of Colorado, as it’s just far enough from the hubbub of the Springs and well away from the Denver traffic. If you’re looking for tranquility, deep breaths, and peaceful nights, this may be your next place to take root.

With plenty of community events like Shakespeare in the Park and a Memorial Day ceremony, you’ll feel at home in this small town, where parks and outdoor events are the heart of activity. Or try the historical walking tour to learn about the early homesteaders who helped shape the community. The arts are also valued and on display with public art pieces, like “Ice Harvest.” October is Arts Month, and investment in art is important to the Tri-Lakes area.

As with most towns along the front range, its roots are in mining and railroad. Yet, it’s become a place to raise a family, enjoy the out-of-doors and stretch your legs. Enjoy the clear blue water of Monument Lake or one of the other nearby lakes and the plentiful walking and hiking trails.

But you may just want to curl up in front of a fireplace with your warm drink in your quiet neighborhood. It’s a respite from the rush and the perfect place to settle down.
